STEM Building Arts Inclusion – Outdoor Classroom

The College of New Jersey (TCNJ) and the New Jersey State Council on the Arts (NJSCA) requested artists / designers from across the USA to submit qualifications for the creation of an outdoor artwork.  As part of the new STEM Building and Chemistry Addition, the artwork will serve as a focal point and as an outdoor classroom and gathering space for students and the college community.  We received submissions from 115 artists / designers in December 2015.  Our artist selection committee, including representatives from TCNJ’s students, faculty, staff, board of trustees, art gallery, and campus planning, as well as the architect of record, and the NJSCA, shortlisted 14 artist / designers to submit proposals for this project.

A winning artist will be selected in April 2016, with the contract awarded after Board of Trustee approval in July 2016.  The buildings are under construction now.  The artwork will be in place in May 2017, before the completion of the building construction.
