STEM Complex

The College received funding for the STEM Complex through the Building Our Future Bond.  The STEM Complex includes the STEM Building, the Biology Building, the Science Complex, and Armstrong Hall.  Click here for a campus map.  The STEM Complex provides cross-disciplinary spaces used by the School of Engineering and the School of Science.  It is a multi-phased project and includes the demolition of Holman Hall; the construction of a new STEM Building, Forum, & Chemistry Addition; and renovations to the Biology Building, the Science Complex, and Armstrong Hall.

STEM COMPLEX.  The College hired EYP Architecture & Engineering to develop a plan for the STEM Complex, including construction of new facilities and renovation of existing facilities. EYP met with members of the campus community to develop and prioritize a program aligned with the College’s Strategic Plan.  A schematic design master plan for the STEM Complex was completed in February 2014.

CURRENT STATUS.   Phase I – New STEM Building, Forum & Chemistry Addition were opened in Fall 2017.  Phase II – Renovations to the Science Complex and Biology Building are in construction. Renovation work at Armstrong Hall is in design.

NEW STEM BUILDING & CHEMISTRY ADDITION.   The College hired EYP for this phase of the project. A new 89,000 gsf STEM building was constructed on the approximate site of Holman Hall.  Included in this phase of the project is a 26,300 gsf addition to the Chemistry wing of the Science Complex.

RENOVATIONS to BIOLOGY and the SCIENCE COMPLEX.   The College hired EYP for this phase of the project. EYP met with members of the campus community to develop design documents for renovations to Biology, Physics, Math & Statistics, and Chemistry.

RENOVATIONS to ARMSTRONG HALL.   The College hired EYP to develop design documents for renovations to Armstrong Hall.  Since the Mechanical Engineering and Biomedical Engineering Departments moved into the new STEM Building in late 2017, the remaining Departments in the School of Engineering gain space in Armstrong Hall.  Significant updates to aging building systems are planned.
